LIBERTY—A memorial service will be held at 11am, Saturday, Oct. 8, officiated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin at McCauley Funeral Home for Bernard J. (Bernie) Mauser, 96, who passed away on September 30, 2016 at Heritage Manor.
He was born on July 25, 1920, in Hubbard, Ohio, a son of Michael and Mary Stroney Mauser and was one of ten children.
A 1940 graduate of Hubbard High School, Bernie played football and basketball for the Eagles. After graduation he was hired by General Fireproofing (GF) where he became superintendent of the electrical and maintenance shop. He retired after 45 years of service to GF.
A veteran of the United States Air Force during World War II, he was an electrical mechanic and flew 66 missions during the war. After his discharge from military service, Bernie married Marion Bartz in 1947 where they resided in Liberty their entire life.
An avid sports fan, he enjoyed playing cards especially poker and pinochle. A perfect day for Bernie was playing golf, having a burger and enjoying a cold beer. His claim to fame was bowling a 300 game in 1973. He was a member of St. Edward Church.
He is survived by his wife of 69 years, sons Bernie (Debbie) Mauser of Liberty, Michael (Dorothy) of Vienna, Ron (Elizabeth), daughters Mariellen (Dr. Robert) Sinsheimer of Columbus, Ohio and Patricia (Dr. Paul) Gottschall of Little Rock, Arkansas; ten grandchildren and ten great grandchildren and a sister Nancy (Richard) Stevens of New Middletown, Ohio.
