HUBBARD--Donald Stephen “Buzz” Gubany was born October 7th, 1939, in Youngstown, OH., the son of Joseph Patrick Gubany and Helen Gurella Gubany.
Buzz graduated from Campbell Memorial High School (’57) and Youngstown University (’64) where he was a member of Theta Chi fraternity. After graduating from college, he entered the United States Navy and graduated from Officer’s Candidate School in Newport, RI.   Buzz proudly served for four years and was honorably discharged at the rank of Lieutenant in 1967. Upon returning to Youngstown, he became the long-standing President of The Murphy Contracting Company from which he retired in 2016.
During his tenure at Murphy, he completed many important projects throughout the Mahoning Valley.  Some of these included the Tyler History Center, Oh Wow! The Roger and Gloria Jones Children’s Center for Science and Technology, a number of new school buildings within both the Youngstown and Campbell School Systems.  Other projects of significance include the former Northside Medical Center, St. Elizabeth’s Hospital, Akron Children’s Hospital, Park and Lake Vista retirement communities, as well as projects throughout Mill Creek Park system including the Woodland Trails path in his treasured Fellows Riverside Gardens.
Buzz was an active volunteer throughout the Mahoning Valley and served on a number of Boards and sub-committees.  He was most proud of the work he accomplished as a member of the Board of Directors for the Mahoning Valley Historical Society and Fellows Riverside Gardens.
A passionate outdoorsman, Buzz was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a long-time member of the Youngstown Country Club where he spent countless hours on the skeet range, sharing his love for the sport and companionship of his dear friends.  He was also a member of the Conneaut Creek Club and the HomeWaters fly fishing club in Erie, Pa.  His enthusiasm for sport shooting lead him to develop friendships across many clubs, one of special note was the Vienna Gun Club.
Buzz is survived by his beloved wife of nearly 52 years, Carol Murphy Gubany whom he married July 10, 1965, and their five children, Mrs. Merry Wagner (Joseph) of Cortland, OH., Mrs. Jennifer Lishing (Carl) of Cleveland, OH., Matthew J.
