Sister Genevieve (Jenni) Skerk, H.M., 87, formerly Sister M. Davidica, of Youngstown, Ohio, died Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Villa Maria Community Center, Villa Maria, PA. A 1947 graduate of North High School in Youngstown, she entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary Congregation in 1956 from St. Francis Parish, Youngstown.
Sr. Jenni served 59 years in active ministry as a dedicated teacher, pastoral minister, director of religious education, and hospital chaplain. She served at St. Patrick, Hubbard and St. Elizabeth Health Center and Mercy Health/St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital most recently as a chaplain volunteer in the Emergency Department.
The daughter of the late John and Rose (nee Baleskie) Skerkavich, she is survived by her brother John Skerkavich of Youngstown; her nieces and nephews and their families; and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation with whom she shared her life for 61 years. She was also preceded in death by her sisters Rosella Clement, Eva Bendokas, Lucille Schreiber and Florence Cheatham and brothers, Richard and Ralph Skerkavich.
Funeral Monday, March 20 at 10:30 am at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria PA. Friends may call at Villa Maria Chapel Sunday, March 19, 3:30-7pm and Monday, March 20, 9:30-10:15am. Prayer service at 7:00pm Sunday, March 19.
