Sister Patricia A. RogersJanuary 23, 1932 ~ October 20, 2017 (age 85)
Sister Patricia Rogers, H.M., (formerly Sr. Mary Gemma, S.N.D.), 85, died Friday, October 20, 2017 at Villa Maria Community Center, Villa Maria, Pa. Born in Cleveland, she graduated from St. Peter High School and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1949 from St. Joseph Franciscan Church, Cleveland. In 1970 she left the Notre Dame Congregation and professed vows as a Sister of the Humility of Mary.
Sr. Pat completed her BSE at St. John College, Cleveland and earned her MSEd from the University of Scranton in Pennsylvania.
She taught at the elementary and secondary levels primarily in the Cleveland diocese for 24 years prior to becoming involved in politics at the local level where she concentrated on the needs of senior citizens. In 1995 she was named by Governor George Voinovich as one of 64 delegates and alternates to represent the state of Ohio at the White House Conference on Aging. In 2011 she returned to Villa Maria Community Center where she joined her sisters in the Ministry of Prayer and faith-filled presence until her death.
The daughter of the late George and Margaret (nee Cunningham) Rogers, and sister of the late James W. Rogers, she is survived by her five nieces and nephews and their families, and by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary with whom she shared 47 years of her life.
Funeral Tuesday, October 24 at 3PM at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria PA. Friends may call at Villa Maria Chapel Monday, October 23, 3:30 – 7 pm and Tuesday, October 24, 2:00-2:45PM.
