Sister Kathleen King H.M.

VILLA MARIA - Sister Kathleen King, H.M., formerly Sr. M. Campion, 92, died January 21, 2024 at Villa Maria Community Center.

Originally from Akron, she graduated from Villa Maria High School, Villa Maria PA in 1949 and entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in 1950 from St. Sebastian Parish. She professed her perpetual vows in 1955.

Sr. Kathleen, known to many as “Sister Katie,” received her AB from the former Seton Hill College, Greensburg PA and her MA from the University of Notre Dame, South Bend IN. She then dedicated 36 years as a dynamic and engaging teacher and administrator serving in the Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Youngstown dioceses including Ursuline High School Extension in Youngstown in the mid-1950s. 

Following her years in the schools she was appointed to the HM Membership and Affiliation Team. During this time she dedicated herself to directing a volunteer service program for young adult volunteers with placements in both the United States and Central and South America. She continued her contacts with hundreds of these volunteer alums for many years.

The daughter of the late James and Mary (McGuiness) King and sister of the late Rev. William F. King, SJ, she is survived by her brother Rev. James J. King, SJ and her sister Mary Margaret Reardon and 27 nieces and nephews and their families, and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation with whom she shared her life for 74 years.

Funeral Saturday, January 27 at 10:00 am at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria PA.  Rite of Return and viewing at Villa Maria Chapel beginning at 9:00 am prior to the funeral Mass. The funeral will be livestreamed. A link will be posted on humilityofmary.org on the day of the funeral.
