Mary Philibin McCloud
Mary Eleanor Philibin McCloud died at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, December 29, 2016, at Windsor House Liberty Healthcare Center in Youngstown, Ohio, following a 23 year battle with refractory depression and ultimately profound dementia.
Born December 22, 1922, Mary was the daughter of Edward C. and Rosalia Williams Philibin.  She was a member of the Immaculate Conception Church, attended the Immaculate  Conception grade school, and graduated from East High school in May of 1940.
She is survived by her husband James N. McCloud of Proctorville, Ohio; her son James E. (Jim) McCloud and daughter, Linda E. Huffman and her husband Attorney Alan J. Matavich of East Bend, NC.
Mary was the last surviving child of a large Irish family that included eight brothers and one sister all of whom preceeded her in death: John (Jack) Philibin of Johnstown, PA; Edward A., David L., Thomas J., Henry J., Bertram, Donald and Delores Philibin of Youngstown, OH; and Ralph E. Philibin of Columbus along with 21 nieces and nephews.
As a young woman Mary was employed by Bell telephone, Dollar Bank and the Home Seed Company in Youngstown.  On May 5, 1945, she married James N. McCloud of Huntington, WV and left Youngstown making her home first in Huntington, WV and later in Proctorville, Ohio, where she lived from 1945-1993.  During that time she was a mother and homemaker and an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she served with the Sacred Heart Guild.  At St. Ann’s Catholic Church she was a member of the Catholic Women’s Club and the Deanery Women’s Council in Steubenville, Ohio.  Mary was a craft master who donated many hours of her time creating fabric crafts, Christmas ornaments, dolls, quilts, and floral potpourri that she donated to St. Ann’s for sales at holiday bazaars.
Mary moved to San Antonio, Texas in 1993 to live with her daughter where she received targeted neurological care at the University of Texas.  She attended daily mass at Holy Spirit Catholic Church where she was a member.  Subsequently Mary was accepted in a neurological research program at the University of Chicago where she lived during a two year study before returning to Youngstown, Ohio in 1997.  With the help of family, friends, and many kind caregivers, Mary was able to live at home for the next 13 years.  Mary has lived at Windsor House since 2010.
Funeral arrangements are being managed by the McCauley Funeral Home of Youngstown, Ohio.  Visitation hours will be from 4-6 p.m. on Tuesday and 9:30-10:15 on Wednesday morning.  Prayers and a procession to St. Edward’s Catholic Church will follow with the Rite of Christian Burial and Holy Mass to begin at 11:00 a.m..  Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery.  Recitation of the Rosary will be at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday.  
On behalf of Mary, her family wishes to acknowledge numerous family members and friends for their dedication to caring for Mary and making her days happy and comfortable.  Special thanks are extended to her sisters-in-law Ann and Lena Philibin; nieces Amy and Kelly DeMarco; and friends, Yvette Dawson Lugo and family; Bernie Berdis, Richard and Cindie Switka; Jan Clark, Randy Hood, and the professional staff at St. Elizabeth Hospital and Windsor House.  We are also grateful to Dr. John Delaquadri and Father Jack Mulqueen who attended to Mary’s needs at the end of her life.
