April 18, 1939 – August 2, 2024
POLAND - Dr. Dean Raymond Brown of Poland passed away peacefully at home August 2nd after a short illness. Raised in Terre Haute Indiana then, after graduating from Rose Hulman University, he moved to Schenectady New York where he met and married his wife and love of over 60 years, Betty. Later, he followed his passion for mathematics, and attended Ohio State University, following in the footsteps of his father and grandfather. After earning a PhD in Mathematics,he found a home in Youngstown where he served the students of Youngstown State University for over 35 years as professor.
First and foremost, Dean was a man of great faith serving as an Elder for more than 40 years at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church in Boardman. His love of education extended to teaching Sunday school.
He also had many interests including a lifelong love of trains and trolleys, pipe organ music, antique clocks, books, Packard cars, Welsh culture, traveling and the Youngstown Symphony.
He is survived by his wife Betty, brother Dudley, sons Evan (Rina) and Dana (Laurie) as well as six grandchildren, Erica, Alexander, Benjamin, Ian, Justin and Lucas.
The family has requested that in lieu of flowers that contributions to the Rescue Mission of Mahoning Valley, 1300 Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, Youngstown, Ohio 44510.
Calling hours will be held at Cornerstone Presbyterian Church, 471 Matthews Road, Boardman, Ohio 44512, Friday, August 16th from 6:00 - 7:00 pm with a service following at 7:00pm. He will be buried at the reformed presbyterian cemetery in new Galilee Pennsylvania on Saturday, August 17.
