STRUTHERS – Private family services were held for Donald P. Maloney, Sr., 83, who passed away Friday Oct. 24 at St. Elizabeth Health Center – Main Campus with his family by his side.
Mr. Maloney was born March 17, 1931 in Youngstown and was a son of Eugene F. and Margaret Lumpp Maloney and was a lifelong member of the community.
He was employed by Jones and Laughlin and Cold Metal Products as a furnace operator for 44 years and retired in 1993.
Mr. Maloney was a member of St. Matthias Church, a graduate of East High School and was an Army veteran of the Korean War and was discharge as a Corporal and was the recipient of the Army of Occupation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
He was a founding member of the Midget Athletic Booster Club, enjoyed working on his house, woodworking, traveling with his wife, loved to read and research about the Civil War, was a caretaker for his mother and proud of his family; his sons and their wives, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mr. Maloney was preceded in death by his loving wife of 61 years, the former Peggy Ann Barnhart whom he married January 27, 1951 and who passed away March 5, 2012.
He will be deeply missed by his sons; Donald P. (Debbie) Maloney, Jr. John K. (Joanne) Maloney and Bryan Maloney; sister, Margaret Hinchcliffe; grandchildren, Brad, Suzanne (Joseph), Kelly (Michael), Daniel, Gina, Frank, William and Megan (Chad); great grandchildren, Colin and Marley; honorary grandson, Jason Marvin and an honorary granddaughter and caretaker, Christal Frye.
Besides his wife, Mr. Maloney was preceded in death his by parents; a sister, Rita Bruno; a brother, Eugen F. Maloney; grandson, John J. Maloney and a grandson in law, Daniel Baehler
The family has requested that contributions may be sent to the Shriners Wheel of Mercy Foundation, P.O. Box 302, North Lima, Ohio 44452 in memory of his grandson, John J. Maloney
