LIBERTY TWP. – Dorothy E. Durina, 95, of Liberty Township passed away late Wednesday afternoon, October 23, 2024 at her home with her loving family by her side.
Mrs. Durina was born Sunday, May 26, 1929 in New Castle, Pennsylvania, a daughter of Wilbur G. and Elizabeth Rogan Ferrell and came to the Youngstown area as a child.
Mrs. Durina was employed by YSU as a clerical specialist in the Registrar's Office and retired in 1996.
Her involvement in the community was one of love and dedication as a member of St. Edward Parish, member of the Confraternity of Christian Mothers, 55 Plus Club Member of Liberty Township, Bridge Card Club member and always looked forward to playing cards with the girls, member of St. Elizabeth Auxiliary.
Mrs. Durina was also active in the sports community as a member of the Ursuline High School and Liberty High School Booster Clubs, first president of the Liberty Baseball Association Auxiliary, was an avid golfer, bowler and enjoyed shopping.
She was an avid supporter of Ursuline High School and was a recipient of the Distinguished Alumni Award from Ursuline, Mrs. Durina was a fan of Notre Dame and the New York Yankees
Mrs. Durina was a 1947 graduate of Ursuline High School, she was elected prom queen and was a member of the Dramatics Club and the Spanish Club, attended Carlow College in Pittsburgh and Youngstown College.
Mrs. Durina volunteered in the Ursuline Office of Alumni and Advancement. She was also involved in the Cursillo movement in Youngstown and the renewal program at St. Patrick Church in Hubbard.
Mrs. Durina leaves to cherish her memory her children, Michele Jarvis of Girard; Michael (Sandi) of Poland; Dorothy Revella of Youngstown; Patrick (Carla) of Canfield; Sean (Patty) of Austintown; Kelli (Gus) Economos of Hubbard; Katie (Ted) Alexander of Canfield; Kevin of Boardman; and a sister and best friend, Kay Herberger of Liberty Township.
Grandchildren, Matthew (Emily) Guarnieri; Annie Jason) Goshay; Jessica Economos; Mary Economos; Colin Durina; Kaitlyn Durina (Ben) Biteman; Lindsay Durina (Adam) Griffin; Ross (Sarah) Revella; Keri Durina; Conor Durina; Emily (DJ) Stastny; Cole (Cassie) Durina; Sophia Durina and Zack (Kelly).
Great Grandchildren, Heaton (Roman) Davidenko; Regan O'Hara; Arianna Economos; Matthew Guarnieri; Kameron Goshay; Adriana Goshay; Caruso Revella; Capri Revella; Jack Biteman; James Biteman; Vivian Stastny; Gwendolyn Griffin; Mila Stastny; Peyton and Charlie; and a Great Great Grandson, Gabriel Davidenko. Besides her parents Mrs. Durina was preceded in death by her husband, Michael R. Durina, whom she married, Saturday, September 23, 1950 and who passed away, Saturday, September 22, 2012, daughter, Mary a brother, Dutch Ferrell and son-in-law, Kem Jarvis
The family will receive relatives and friends, Tuesday, October 29, 2024 from 10 am to 11:45 am followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at Noon celebrated by Very Reverend Monsignor Robert Siffrin in St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown 44504.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations to Ursuline High School Football Program, 750 Wick Avenue, Youngstown 44505.
The Durina family would like to send a heartfelt thank you to Hospice of the Valley and its caretakers for their compassionate care and concern for their mother.
