Dr. Douglas Dalziel Lewis D.O., a distinguished physician, devoted family man, and Air Force Veteran, passed away peacefully on April 24, 2026, at Hospice House following a courageous and longstanding battle with diabetes. Born on November 28, 1952, in Portland, Maine, Dr. Lewis lived a life marked by dedication to his profession, his family, and his community.

A graduate of Freeport High School, Dr. Lewis pursued higher education with earnest commitment. He earned his bachelor's degree in biology from the University of Maine at Orono, then continued his studies to become a physical assistant at George Washington University. His academic journey culminated with a medical degree from the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1990. Upon completing his education, Dr. Lewis and his wife Kathleen relocated to the Youngstown area where he was honored to receive an internship at the Youngstown Hospital Association at Northside Hospital.

Dr. Lewis was not only a skilled physician but also a proud Air Force Veteran who served during the Vietnam War. He was a member of the American Legion, demonstrating his enduring commitment to his country and fellow veterans. Those who knew him remember a man who cherished spending time with his family and enjoyed various creative pursuits such as drawing, photography, and reading. He found joy in working outdoors in the yard as well as tending to projects inside the house.

He is survived by his beloved wife, the former Kathleen Felker, whom he married on August 11, 1973, and his sons: Patrick of Columbus; Geoffrey, along with his wife Erica, of Youngstown; and Michael of Liberty Township. His three grandchildren, Kennedy, Ian, and Easton, brought him immense joy. Dr. Lewis also leaves behind his brothers Bruce (Nancy) Lewis of Litchfield, New Hampshire; Gordon (Maureen) Lewis of Grantsburg, Wisconsin; and Norman (Carol) Lewis of Lompoc, California, sister-in-law Barbar Lewis of West Baldwin, Maine as well as several nieces and nephews who will remember him fondly.

Dr. Lewis was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Robert Lewis, Jr.

The family will receive relatives and friends to honor and remember Dr. Douglas Dalziel Lewis from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday, April 30, 2026, at The McCauley Funeral Home, 230 Broadway, Youngstown 44504. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday, May 1, 2026, in St. Edward Church at 11 a.m. by the Reverend Monsignor Robert Siffrin and please meet directly at church.

Dr. Lewis’s legacy is one of professional excellence, patriotism, and deep familial love. His memory will be cherished by all who were blessed to know him.
