AUSTINTOWN – Eric R. Newton, Sr. 81 of Austintown passed away Sunday morning, May 12, 2024 at Mercy Health St. Elizabeth Downtown Health Center with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Newton was born Tuesday, September 8, 1942 in Youngstown and a son of Samuel B. and Ella May Edmonds Newton, Sr., and a lifelong member of the community.
He was employed by Youngstown Sheet and Tube/LTV Steel as a crane operator, Cold Metal Products and retired from Brink's Armored Cars retiring in 2019 as a supervisor and trainer.
Mr. Newton was a member of St. Columba Cathedral, Austintown Senior Center where he served at the center, and grievance officer at Youngstown Sheet and Tube.
He was a United States Army Veteran, belonged to DAV and also a member of the Honor Guard, an avid sports fan cheering for the Cleveland Browns and Indians, Ohio State Buckeyes and Youngstown State Penguins, proud graduate of East High School, loved to garden and was very proud he skydived at the age of 75.
Mr. Newton leaves to cherish his memory his son, Eric R. Newton, Jr. of Austintown; daughter, Michele Gollner and her fiancé, Michael F. Guzzo, Jr. of Austintown; sister, Rose Marie Newton-Clay and her husband, William of Austintown; sister in law Barbara J. Newton of Youngstown; grandson, Robert Anthony Newton; great grandchildren Elijah, Emery and Elicia also several nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents Mr. Newton was preceded in death by his wife Nancy L. Newton whom he married August 7, 1965 and who passed away January 21, 2012; siblings, Samuel Newton, Sr, Richard W. Newton, William J. Newton, Sr., Sandra Fishbaugh and Robert J Newton, Sr.
The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday May 21, 2024 at Tod Homestead Cemetery Chapel, 2200 Belmont Avenue Youngstown 44505 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. followed immediately with the service celebrated by Reverend Monsignor Robert Siffrin.
