BOARDMAN – A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Charles Church for Frank Verdinek, Jr., 89, who passed away Monday morning at St. Elizabeth Health Center Main Campus.
Mr. Verdinek was born September 12, 1924 in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania and was a son of Frank and Helen Stuckunus Verdinek, Sr. and moved to the Youngstown area in 1954 for employment purposes.
He worked as an electrician in the maintenance department of United Engineering and Foundry Company for 32 years and retiring in 1984. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy serving in the submarine division from 1943 thru 1946 in the South Pacific. He was a life member of SNPJ Lodge # 153, he belonged VFW Post # 5532, past member of the American Legion #732 in Washingtonville, a graduate of Thomas High School in Thomas, West Virginia, a member of St. Charles Church and as an avid bowler and golfer where he was a member of several area leagues.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Elizabeth Lewis, whom he married June 25, 1949; sons, Wayne (Bonnie) Verdinek of Austintown and David (Susanne) Verdinek of Boardman; grandchildren, Jessica Wal, Brent, Daniel and David Verdinek; six great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Agnes Lopez.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Thursday all at St. Charles Church.
