FORT LAUDERDALE _ Fred W. Smith, Jr. passed away on June 15, 2017 at Gold Coast Hospice at Broward Health Medical Center with his loving family by his side.

Fred was born in Warren on Feb. 27, 1958 and was a son of Fred W. and Sarah McNelly Smith, Sr. and moved to Florida from Youngstown in 1986.

He retired in 2016 from the city of Sunrise, Florida as a swimming and lifeguard instructor.

Fred was a 1976 graduate of Ursuline High School and attended YSU, he was a member of the Poverello Center which is known for serving nutritious food with understanding, respect and love for individuals living with critical and chronic illnesses. He was known for his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor, he was a wonderful baker sharing his bake goods with family and friends and numerous people will miss his daily texts.

He leaves to cherish his memory his sister, Cheryl A. Smith; brother, Regis (Susan) Smith all of Youngstown; nephew, Sam; nieces, Anita and Natalie and his Florida family

Fred was preceded in death by his parents.

Per Fred's wishes there will be visitation and a celebration of his life with family and friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday in Vencention Hall at St. Edward Church.
