LIBERTY TWP – Services will be 11:15 a.m. Saturday at the McCauley Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Noon in St. Edward Church, celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin, for George Bode, 88, who passed away Wednesday morning at his residence.
Mr. Bode was born Nov. 7, 1926 in Youngstown and was a son of Eric and Genevieve Leanighen Anderson and was a lifelong member of the community.
Mr. Bode was an engineer for the Youngstown Fire Department for over 25 years and retired in 1979 and after retirement, Mr. Bode worked for Fab Art. He was a World War II Navy veteran serving on the USS Halsey Powell and was awarded the Victory Medal, American Area Campaign Medal and the Asiatic Pacific Area Campaign Medal. He was a graduate of Ursuline High School, member of the church, an avid golfer, enjoyed horse racing, his favorite teams were the Cleveland Indians and Browns, was a member of the greatest generation and loved his God and country.
Mr. Bode leaves to cherish his memory, daughters, Dorene (Bill) Kray of Newburgh Heights; Becky Bode of Novelty; Mary Ann (Rob) Peffer of South Carolina; Patty (Mark Moriarty) Bode of Massachusetts; Mary Beth (Rick) Rezek of Wisconsin; Jayne Pandy of Brecksville and Lori Bode Naples of Youngstown; sons, Dan (Meg Doerr) Bode of Cleveland and Mike (Mary) Bode of North Royalton; 17 grandchildren and several great grandchildren.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Joann Morley, whom he married Feb. 15, 1950 and who passed away Dec. 30, 2011, and a sister, Mary Ellen Roberts.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
