Obituary

POLAND – Glen A. Michaels, 86, of Poland passed away Thursday morning, April 8, 2025 at his residence with his loving family by his side.

Mr. Michaels was born Friday, March 31, 1939, in Youngstown and was the son of Glen Oliver and Emily Johanna Rochow Michaels and was a lifelong member of the community.

Mr. Michaels was employed by Van-Huffel Tube as a machinist for 22 years and then retired in 2001 as the plant manager of Great Lakes Associates after 14 years.

He was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, a 1957 graduate of The Rayen School, he enjoyed gardening, fishing, and reading. He loved bird watching as evidence of the numerous bird feeders in his yard. Mr. Michaels was a member of the United Steelworkers and was also president of the Northside Knights Youth Organization.

As a highly active member of the Boy Scouts for over 44 years, he was an Assistant Scout Master and Camp Master, receiving the District Award of Merit for Troop 55 and a Vigil member of the Order of Arrow. Mr. Michaels was an honorable discharge United states Air Force veteran serving from 1957 through 1960.

Mr. Michaels leaves to cherish his memory, his wife, the former Judy Sullivan whom he married Saturday, August 24, 1963; his beloved children, Colleen (Keith) Morris of Streetsboro; Glen Brian Michaels of Boardman; and Kathleen (Ron) Ziegler of Poland; sister, Sandra Desimone of New Middletown; grandchildren, Abigail (Mike Wright); Jordan (Courtney Sandala); Hannah (Zack Havlin); Emily (DeCarlo Bailey); Dylan and Evan; great grandchildren Carson, Hadley and DeCarlo. He also leaves his cherished friends, Rich, and Pinky Allen and Merrill and Thresea Harris.

Besides his parents, Mr. Michaels was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Ron Desimone.
