Obituary
BOARDMAN – Services will be 9:15 a.m. Saturday at the McCauley Funeral Home and a Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. in St. Dominic Church for Helen R. Swita, 93, who passed away Tuesday morning at Vista Care of Boardman where she had been a resident.
Miss Swita was born June 7, 1920 in Youngstown and was a daughter of Joseph and Victoria Kogut Swita and was a lifelong member of the community.
At the age of 35 she decided to change careers and pursue a nursing degree and was employed by the Youngstown Hospital Association at the Southside Hospital for over thirty years and retired as the head nurse in isolation unit in 1985. Previous to her career change she was the secretary to the president of Greyhound Bus Lines and then became the secretary of Sheridan School.
Miss Swita was a member of the church, numerous nurse's organization and clubs, loved to travel, decorating her Christmas Trees, a 1938 graduate of South High School and a graduate of the Youngstown College School of Nursing.
She leaves to cherish her memory her dearest friends, Noreen Handel McGiffin, Ted and Marie Handel, Dan and Dolly Handel and Ann Gudas and their families, her dearest nursing friends, Pauline Szary and Leta Crawford and her caretakers, Ann and Georgiann Bosiljcic
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Caroline Stulges and brothers, Casmir and Walter who passed away February 12, 2014 and a godson, Christopher Page.
Relatives and friends may call from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
