IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Helen Marie
Lamb Hulme
February 24, 1927 – June 29, 2024
HELEN MARIE LAMB HULME 1927-2024 YOUNGSTOWN The Hulme Family lost its heart and soul, Helen Marie Lamb Hulme, on Saturday June 29, 2024 after a short illness. She lived for 97 incredible years. Helen was born on February 24, 1927, at home on Chalmers Avenue in Youngstown. She was one of five children born to William and Mary Lamb. She grew up on the South Side and attended St. Patrick's School and Church and graduated from Ursuline High School in 1945. She went on to attend St. Elizabeth's School of Nursing, graduating in 1948. Helen grew up in difficult times, through the Depression and war. Still, she cherished those years for teaching her what matters in life. The church and school were the center of her family where she made friendships that lasted her lifetime. She often shared how grateful she was for her Catholic education and how it prepared her for life. Becoming a nurse was Helen's passion and she was so proud to be a nurse. She built strong bonds with many of her patients and coworkers. Much like the parable of the Good Samaritan, Helen's concern and mercy to her patients, and their families, had a lasting impact. Many would even visit with her and seek her counsel years after her care. Helen nurtured her friendships. She spent long hours at her kitchen table writing notes, often slipping in gift cards for Handel's Ice Cream. Countless mailboxes were made joyful with her thoughtful messages. Helen also loved phone conversations. She closely followed the stories of people's lives with interest and concern. She cared so much for the people in her life and was so willing to serve and meet the needs of others. Helen had an unforgettable laugh that one could not forget. She loved college sports and especially the Buckeyes and Villanova basketball. Football season will not be the same without her colorful play by play. Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy have lost their biggest fan, and the Youngstown Vindicator its most thorough reader. Most of all, Helen treasured her family. Through good and bad times, she cheered on her children, and later her grandchildren, with boundless confidence in their abilities and endless pride in their every accomplishment. She was a constant source of encouragement and inspiration. Youngstown became their home away from home, with numerous visits for celebrations and holidays. She was our most devoted audience, our loudest cheerleader, our gentlest corrector, and our constant companion. Where there is great love, there is great grief. And we will grieve our Mom in the days to come. Her heart, and the way it touched others, is her legacy. We have lost a legend. Helen was preceded in death by her husband, Edward, and sons Edward Jr. and John and daughter-in-law, Dayna (Thomas) Hulme, siblings, Rita M. Downey, Robert J. Lamb and William and Mary (Murphy) Lamb. Helen is survived behind her sister, Dolores Gillespie of Youngstown. She leaves behind four children: Mary Hulme of Youngstown; Thomas Hulme of Nashville, TN; Anne Stocking (Carl) of Hilton Head, SC; and Geoffrey Hulme (Daryl) of Blacklick, Ohio; her nine grandchildren: Kelsey Kindig; Elisabeth, Teddy and Caroline Stocking; Courtney Hulme Eli and Alexandra Hulme; and Quinn, Colin, and Lance Hulme; and her two great grandchildren: Kip and Sunny Kindig.
