YOUNGSTOWN – Services will be 10 a.m. Monday, celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin, at the McCauley Funeral Home for Herbert Edward McKnight, 90, who passed away Thursday evening at St. Elizabeth Main Campus.
Mr. McKnight was born Oct. 6, 1923 in Hubbard and was a son of Stephen and Scotia Cisler McKnight and was a lifelong member of the community.
He was employed by Aeroquip Corporation and Republic Rubber as a braider operator and retired in 1987. He was a World War II Army veteran receiving a Bronze Star, an Air Medal, Philippine Liberation and the Asiatic Pacific Ribbons and discharged as a technical Sergeant. Mr. McKnight was a graduate of Hubbard High School, loved bowling spending much of his time at McGuffey Lanes and was an avid Cleveland Browns and Cleveland Indians fan.
Mr. McKnignt leaves to cherish his memory a daughter, Patricia Ann (Don) Barger of Marion, Indiana; sons Thomas and Daniel McKnight both of Youngstown; grandchildren, Jill (Rick) Palumbo of Lowellville and Jeff Barger of Marion, Indiana; great grandchildren, Giana and Ricky Palumbo and a sister in law, Norma McKnight.
Besides his parents, Mr. McKnight was preceded in death by his wife, the former Catherine Creps, whom he married May 13, 1950 and who passed away March 13, 1986 a son, Edward Earl McKnight; sister, Ruth Lowry; brothers, Cloyce, David and Richard McKnight.
The family will receive relatives and friend from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
