A Mass of Christian Burial will be 10 a.m. Saturday in St. Edward Church, celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin, for Joan E. Welsh, 84, who passed away Wednesday morning at Kettering Memorial Hospital and was formerly of Coronado Avenue in Youngstown.

Mrs. Welsh was born March 6, 1932 in Youngstown and was a daughter of Joseph M. and Wilma Fitch Donnelly.

Mrs. Welsh was a teacher with the reading program of the Youngstown Board of Education and retired in 1993 and also was a teacher for the Reading and Study Skills program at Ursuline High School for 12 years.

Mrs. Welsh was a member of the parish, served as a sacristan at the 9:00 a.m. Mass on Sunday, served as a Eucharistic Minister and answered the phones at the rectory. She was a member of Phi Mu Sorority, Catholic Collegiate and the Neuman Club.

Mrs. Welsh was a graduate of The Rayen School, received her Bachelor's in education from Youngstown College and her Master's in Education from Youngstown State University.

She leaves to cherish her memory daughters, Anjulie (Len) Stringer of Euless, TX; Mary (James) Buchanan of St. Louis, MO; Jean (John) Carr of Dayton, OH and Drs. Carolyn (Timothy) Harris of Highland Village, TX.; sons, Joseph E. (Nitaya) Welsh III of Houston, TX.; and Kevin (Christine) Welsh of Berea, OH; sister, Mary Wilma Altier of Akron, OH; brother, Edward C. Donnelly of Boardman, OH ; sister-in-law Elaine Welsh; grandchildren Shannon (Phillip), Nisha (Jeroen), Joseph IV, Bryan, Jason (Kat), Faith (Alvin), Stephen (Kassia), William , Rebecca, Amanda (Andy), Lauren, Michael, Molly, Mary (Orren), Leo, John, David, Andrew, Chelsea, Sophia; great grandchildren, Aiden, Lucie, Vivienne, Oliver, Caden, Genevieve, Abigaile, Hannah, Luke, Ruth, Esther, Sarah, Uriah, Benjamin, Abigaile, Elizabeth, Charlotte, Skylar, and Ruger; along with many nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents, Mrs. Welsh was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Edward Welsh, Jr. whom she married June 9, 1956 and who passed away August 24, 2005; brothers, Gerald (Trudie) Donnelly and Paul (Marie) Donnelly; and in-laws Patricia (Elmer) Rogers, Sr. Marcia Welsh, Thomas Gerald Welsh, Vincent Altier, and Mary Pat Donnelly.

The family will receive relatives and friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday (today) at the McCauley Funeral Home and from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. Saturday at St. Edward Church.
