SALEM - Margaret “Margie” Greene James, age 78, went home to be with the Lord on January 24, 2026, at Saint Elizabeth Mercy Health in Youngstown, Ohio surrounded by family. She was born at St. Thomas Hospital in Akron, OH and lived a life rooted in faith, family, and love. Margie was a graduate of Ursuline High School and built her career as a bank teller with Chase Bank, where she was known for her kindness, patience, and steady presence. Outside of work, she found joy in the simple blessings of life. She loved Myrtle Beach, riding bikes, taking road trips, and sharing meals with family, especially at Texas Roadhouse. Above all else, she loved Jesus. Her faith was the foundation of her life, and she was a devoted member of Cornerstone Assembly of God Church, serving as the treasurer for several years. She lived her faith daily, guided by prayer, grace, and humility. Margie was a peacemaker by nature, gentle in spirit, slow to anger, and always seeking unity and understanding. She had a quiet way of bringing calm into difficult moments and making people feel heard and loved.
Margie was preceded in death by her son Chris, daughter Nicole, brother Robert Greene, her father Jack Greene, and her mother Olga Greene.
She leaves her loving husband, Bill James; brothers Mike Greene and John Greene (Gail); sisters Barb Greene and Kathy Jacobs (John). She is also survived by her children: Brian Dettmer (Amy), Keith Dettmer (Tracey) and Kevin Dettmer (Amy); step-children: Doug Allen (Kim), Paula Spitler and Melissa Black (Brian).
Margie was a devoted and loving grandmother to Nathan (Taylor), Aaron, Kaleb, Connor, Carter, Dean and Cora Dettmer; Daniel (Skylar) and Emily Rhodes; Leah and Rachel Allen; Micha Black; great-grandchildren: Zayn and Kai Rhodes.
At Cornerstone Assembly of God 185 W South Range Rd North Lima, OH 44452, calling hours will be held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., followed by a Celebration of Life at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, January 30, 2026. In lieu of flowers, and in keeping with Margie’s heart and faith, donations may be made to Cornerstone Assembly of God Church.
Her legacy of prayer, compassion, and quiet strength will live on in the hearts of all who knew her. These words were written in the Bible of Margie James, “With God there is always a way. By faith I will find it.”
