YOUNGSTOWN – A Mass of Christian Burial will Tuesday, February 3rd, at 10:30 a.m. in St. Edward Church celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin for lifetime member Margaret (Marge) Scharrer, 85, who passed away Thursday, January 29th at Park Vista with her family by her side.
Margaret was born January 16, 1930 in Youngstown and was a daughter of William and Nell Gaffney Donahue.
Her husband C. Edward Scharrer whom she married in 1948 passed away in April 1996.
Margaret's memory will always be cherished by her eight children, 5 sons: Edward (Kathy) of Lebanon, Ohio; Michael (Mikie) of Youngstown; Martin of Angola, New York; Mark (Chris) of Glendale, Arizona and Thomas of Girard and three daughters; Kathleen (Richard) Minniti of Lowellville; Pamela Scharrer, Vienna and Amy (Jerry) Jones of Lisbon.
Margaret was blessed with 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She also leaves a sister Dorothy (George) Kiraly; a sister in law Helen Scharrer; brothers in law Art Hasler and Raymond Scharrer and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceding her in death besides her parents and husband was a brother William (Nora) Donahue and sisters Elizabeth Hasler and Mary Nell Cheek.
Among many things she enjoyed in her life; family, camping, playing cards and casinos. She loved her Irish heritage and the "Wearin of the Green" that she displayed year round at home as well as her stay at Park Vista. Irish music and visits from her sister and cousins often broke out into song and laughter and smiles.
Margaret worked as a designer at Chrishal's Florist for many years. She was a longtime member of the choir at St. Edward Church, the Wednesday prayer group, a Eucharistic minister at Northside Hospital, past president of Confraternity of Christian Mothers, member of Seton III and a volunteer at the church office are some of her many organizations she enjoyed.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4-7 pm Monday, February 2nd at St. Edward Church and from 9:30-10:15 am Tuesday, February 3rd at the church.
The family wishes to express their deepest gratitude to the nurses, aides and staff at Park Vista as well as Hospice of the Valley for their heartfelt care and warmth shown to Margaret throughout her 15 month stay. Many blessings to all of you, you will always be in our prayers.
I thought of you with love today, but that is nothing new. I thought about you yesterday and days before that too. I think of you in silence; I often speak your name. All I have are memories and your picture in a frame. Your memory is my keepsake, with which I'll never part. God has you in His keeping; I have you in my heart.
