Martin J. Scharrer, 73, passed away on Saturday, February 21, 2026 at his home in Angola, NY. He was born March 12, 1952, in Youngstown, OH, the son of the late Carl Edward and Margaret Scharrer.
Marty graduated in 1971 from The Rayen High School. He started working for the railroad in July 1971 and retired in 2012 from CSX as a conductor after 41 years of service.
In addition to his parents, Marty was preceded in death by his son, Martin Jr., who passed away in February 2020. He is survived by his two daughters, Tiffany of NY and Margie Bradley of NV; his son, Shon (Paula) Kessler of Austintown; and six wonderful grandchildren. Marty also leaves four brothers, Edward, Michael, Mark, and Thomas Scharrer, and three sisters, Kathleen Minniti, Pamela Scharrer, and Amy Jones.
Marty was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting with both gun and cap-and-ball, archery, fishing, and boating. Several of his trophies decorate the walls of his home. In his retirement years, he could often be found dancing and charming the ladies at the American Legion Hall, the VFW, and the Jovial in Angola, NY.
Special thanks to his brother Tom and to his caregivers, Jennifer Dunkle, JoAnn Mascio, and MaryEllen Naab, for their kindness and care in helping keep him comfortable in his home.
A memorial mass will be at noon on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at St Edward Church in Youngstown. There will be no calling hours.
