LIBERTY TWP. – Services will be 11 a.m. Tuesday at the McCauley funeral Home for Paul F. Rella, Sr who passed away Thursday evening at Northside Medical Center after becoming ill at home.
Mr. Rella was born Dec. 24, 1938 in Youngstown and was a son of Frank and Martha Zucco Rella and was a lifelong member of the community.
He was employed in the paint department at General Motors in the Lordstown plant for thirty years and retired in 1994. Mr. Rella attended Ursuline High School and graduated from East High School in 1956, enjoyed boating, camping, and the vacations in Florida and Canada. His other passions were making furniture and cabinets out of wood and along with his wife, Carol they built their home in 1978. He was an avid New York Yankee fan and played hardball and softball for several teams in the Youngstown area.
Mr. Rella is survived by his wife, the former Carol A. Brown whom he married June 15, 1974, children, Renee (Gary) Boris of Youngstown; Paul F. (Eliza) Rella, Jr. of New Middletown; Brian Rella of Youngstown; and Lisa (Don) Foley of Canfield; 14 grandchildren; sister in law, Waneta Mook; much loved and very special niece, Linda M. (Joe) Toro and nephew, Walter "Butch" Brown and his beloved Cocker Spaniel, Brea.
Besides his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Rella.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday and from 10 to 10:45 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
