LIBERTY TOWNSHIP—There will be a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am Saturday at St. Edward Church in Youngstown officiated by Msgr. Robert Siffrin for Dr. Robert J. "Bo" Edwards, 94, who died Tuesday afternoon at his home surrounded by his family.
Dr. Edwards was born on December 15, 1920 in Youngstown, Ohio, the son of Owen Paul Edwards and Nellie McManus Edwards. He grew up on the North Side and attended St. Edward School.
He graduated from Ursuline High School and was a proud alumnus of The Ohio State University where after eight years he received his Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine in 1944. He served as a Captain in The United States Air Force from 1950-53, stationed in Orlando, Florida. Upon his return to Youngstown, Dr. Edwards worked for the Craver brothers at Craver Animal Hospital. He bought their practice in 1964 and worked until his death.
A life-long member of St. Edward Church, he also attended Mass at St. Columba Cathedral every day. He was a member of the Colony Club, "The Group", American Animal Hospital Association, The Youngstown Country Club and The Rotary Club of Youngstown which he had 46 years of perfect attendance. He was the first recipient of The Lifetime Achievement Award from The Rotary Club.
He is survived by his two sons: Stephen J. (Wendy) Edwards of Frisco, Texas; William M. (Diane) Edwards of Scottsdale, Arizona; his two daughters: Susan Edwards and Joanie (Joe) Kuras both of Boardman; a daughter-in-law: Patti Edwards of Girard; 11 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife Roberta Clark Edwards, whom he married May 31, 1947, and who passed away in October of 2006, his son David C. Edwards, his brothers John (Jack) Edwards and Owen Paul Edwards and his sister Katherine Tyrell.
The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Aron Blecher and his wife Susan, along with the kind caregivers that were a wonderful help in his final days.
Family and friends may call from 4-7pm, Friday at St. Edward Church and 10-10:45am, Saturday also at the church.
