GIRARD - On Tuesday, November 28, 2023, we confronted the somber reality of bidding farewell to a beautiful heart and soul — our cherished sister, stepmother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend.

Sandi Metzinger Estes departed from this world, leaving behind a void that we, her mournful kin, now grapple with. Born in Youngstown on December 11, 1956, to Vincent J. Metzinger and Ruth I. Evans Metzinger, she leaves behind her two older siblings, Linda (Jim) Avona, and Rick (Patricia) Metzinger.

Sandi found immense joy living on the north side of Youngstown, where she reveled in the company of friends and neighbors at Crandall Park, Northside Swimming Pool, Northside Bowling Alley, and cherished trips to the Dairy Queen.

Following a move to Liberty, Sandi graduated from Liberty High School in 1974 and dedicated many years to Phar-Mor. During this time, she forged lasting friendships that remained dear to her heart. It was also during this period that she encountered the love of her life, John "Skip" Estes. They exchanged vows on September 7, 1985, embarking on a life journey that led them to Florida, Girard, and back to Liberty. In her later years, Sandi contributed her skills to Boardman Medical Supply until her retirement in 2021.

Sandi played a pivotal role in raising Skip's two children, Heather Estes and John (Mike) Estes. She adored them as her own, and it was a heartbreak when Skip succumbed to a prolonged, debilitating illness, passing away on June 9, 2016, in Liberty. Tragically, Heather also left us in July 2022, leaving behind two children of her own, Jordan and Logan.

Sandi took on the role of raising Logan, Heather's son, from the moment of his birth. Now, at the age of 6, navigating the challenges of autism, Sandi made certain he never missed a day of school, a swimming lesson, or anything he needed. She derived immense joy from engaging in conversations with him and sharing her valuable insights. The family expresses their sincere gratitude to the outstanding staff at Fairhaven School.

The family did receive relatives and friends on Saturday, December 2, 2023 in St. Edward Church from 10 to 11 am followed immediately by a Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin.
