Sister Denise Maher, H.M., 69, died Thursday, May 11 at Villa Maria Community Center. She was the founding director of Humility of Mary Housing, Inc., Akron. She served as principal at St. Brendan School and was a social action coordinator and director of initial formation for the Sisters of the Humility of Mary.

Originally from Canton, she was the daughter of the late Dennis and Winefred (Sheehan) Maher. She is survived by her sister Beth Maher Rinz, University Heights and her brother, William Maher, Columbus, six nieces and nephews, and the Sisters of the Humility of Mary with whom she shared her life for 51 years.

Funeral Tuesday, May 16, 2017 at 10:30 AM at Villa Maria Chapel, Villa Maria PA. Friends may call at Villa Maria Chapel Monday, May 15, 3 – 7 pm and Tuesday, May 16, 9:00 – 10:15 am. Prayer service at 7:00 pm Monday, May 15.
