Dennis Conway Obituary

DENNIS  “MICKEY”  CONWAY, 71

YOUNGSTOWN – Mickey Conway passed away Friday morning, May 3, 2019, at Hospice of the Valley’s Hospice House after a courageous seven-month battle with esophageal cancer.  A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown on May 18, 2019 at 10 a.m.

Mickey was born to Betty and Carl Conway on April 2, 1948 in Youngstown, Ohio.  Born and raised on the Northside, he graduated from Ursuline High School (1966), where he excelled in football, service, and leadership (but, definitely not Latin).  As an active member of the UHS Reunion Committee for the last 50 years, Mickey maintained lifelong friendships.

While starting his career in the transportation industry, Mickey earned his degree in Transportation Management from Youngstown State University. Upon his retirement in 2014, he was vice president of True North Energy.

After 49 years of marriage, Mickey leaves his wife, Kathleen Cronin Conway, whom he met in high school.  Together they raised two sons, Kevin (Sondra), granddaughter, Eliza and three adult grandsons, Spencer, Severin, and Luke of New Orleans, Louisiana; and Michael (Sharon), grandchildren, Marissa and Jack of Madison, Alabama.

Mickey will be sadly missed by his mother, Betty Conway; sisters, Mary Sue Conway (Marty Kane) and Monica (Bill) Emler; brother, Patrick (Sue) Conway; brother-in-law, Jim Cronin; sister-in-law, Linda Cronin; nieces and nephews; grand-nieces and grand-nephews; his Godchildren; cousins, and great friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Carl Conway; mother-in-law, Eileen Cronin; father-in-law, Jack Cronin; brother-in-law, John Cronin; brother-in-law, Bill Cronin; sister-in-law, Maureen Cronin; and nephew, Louis Cronin.

Mickey was best known for his humor, love of music, and commitment to service.  Because of his gregarious nature, he never left a room without a new friend.  He loved Mill Creek Park, golfing, YSU football games, and “coaching” the Cleveland Indians.

The family would like to thank Dr. Antoine, Chahine and the staff of the Blood & Cancer Center, Dr. Medford Mashburn and the staff of Hospice of the Valley, Dr. Joseph Ambrose, Father Edward Noga, and the many lifelong friends who gave hands-on compassionate care, food, prayers and visits.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Community Center, 3908 Joliet Street, New Orleans, LA 70118.
