LIBERTY TWP- Francis G. Kovach, 88, of Liberty Township passed away Monday afternoon at Hospice House with his loving family by his side.
Mr. Kovach was born April 2, 1932 in Youngstown and a son of John and Catherine Olejnik Kovach and was a lifelong member of the community.
Mr. Kovach was employed by East Ohio Gas Company in the engineering Department for 36 years and retired in 1994. He was a Korean War Veteran, a member of St. Edward Parish an usher at church and helped to distribute food baskets.
He was a very generous man volunteering for over 30 years at the St. Vincent DePaul Society and delivered food, furniture and clothing to the needy and also would use his vacation time in his quest to help those in need especially during the holidays. He was a huge fan of Notre Dame along with the Cleveland Browns and Indians and was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children, James Kovach of Liberty Township; Jerome (Marge) Kovach of Clark, NJ; Susie (Greg) Malito of Austintown; and Kathy Kovach of Tampa, Florida; sisters, Cecilia Ferenchak; Josephine Salata; brother, Cyril (Mary)Kovach; he was so proud of his grandchildren for their accomplishments in their professional lives, grandchildren, Christopher Malito who has many wonderful memories with his grandfather such as going to Plaza Donuts and McDonald’s for breakfast and watching the Browns and Indians; Danielle Kovach; Michael Kovach and his wonderful dog, Katie
Besides his parents, Mr. Kovach was preceded in death by his wife, the former Ann M. Oexle whom he married August 11, 1956 and who passed away September 11, 2016 in which the shared their life together of over 60 years; brothers, John Kovach, Joseph Kovach and George Kovach; sisters, Agnes Kovach, Catherine Yanek, Mary Minear and Regina Kovach.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday, November 12, 2020 in St. Edward Church and Friday, November 13, 2020 from 10 to 10:45 also in St. Edward Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin. Please be advised that you wear a mask if you can and social distancing will be observed and please do not linger when you have offered your condolences to the family.
The Kovach family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to cardiologist, Dr. David Hoffman for his compassionate and caring service that he extended to their father.
