John Gerard "Twig" Hartwig

John Gerard “Twig” Hartwig passed suddenly, but assuredly into God’s perfect peace on May 21, 2020. He was born December 28, 1956 and is a 1974 graduate of Ursuline High School. While his sales career took him to Las Vegas for a few years, he happily spent most of his life as a Northside Youngstown resident. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren "Babe" Hartwig, brother Tom “Twig” Hartwig, brother-in-law Jerry Resatar and sister Mary J. Hartwig.  Johnny is survived by his greatest source of pride and joy, his son John Hartwig Jr. (Courtney Vaughn). He will be deeply missed by his greatest source of support and inspiration, his mother Patricia A. Hartwig; his siblings, Bob, Bill, Patty Resatar, Paul (Pam Scharrer), and Susie (Rich) Sferra. He loved his role as Uncle Buck to his nieces and nephews Brian (KerriAnn) Hartwig, Stacy (John) Best, Cathi (Chuck) Christopher, Matthew (Alesha) Resatar, P.J., Jason, Kati Hartwig, Anthony and Audrey Sferra; and great nieces and nephews Zane Hartwig, Arya Best, Cody, Tyler, Ava Christopher, Emily Resatar. John was a warm-hearted, fun-loving, generous friend to so many. Among the most treasured, his first love, partner in parenting, and forever friend Gwen Fabian. He had a passion and gift for golfing, cooking, gregarious storytelling, sports trivia, and was the giver of great laughter. A private Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Edward Roman Catholic Church by Monsignor Robert Siffrin. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated later, enabling the community to offer their prayers and support. A Mass of Christian Burial will be 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, 2020, in St. Edward Church for John G. Hartwig who passed away May 21, 2020. With the current health crisis please practice social distancing and proper health protocols. Please wear a mask or facial covering if you are able and, be advised that the occupancy in the church will be kept to a maximum of 80 people.
