GIRARD – John T. Minahan, 83, of Girard passed away Monday morning, October 19, 2020, at Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mr. Minahan, who was known as Jack, was born January 14, 1937 in Niles, Ohio and a son of Gerald J. and Mildred M. Mathews Minahan and was a lifelong member of the community.
Mr. Minahan was employed by Higley’s Florist and Landscaping in his early years in which he developed a passion for keeping his yard meticulous. He also worked for Transamerican Freight Line as a billing and tracing clerk and was promoted to office manager. He was employed by LTV Steel (Republic Steel) for 20 years in the Industrial Engineering Department and Quality Assurance/Control and retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Edward Parish and served the parish well as an usher at the 4:00 p.m. Mass on Saturday, a Eucharist minister and a mass server. He enjoyed tinkering, building and refinishing furniture.
Mr. Minahan was honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant of the United States Air Force, a 1955 graduate of Ursuline High School and a graduate of Youngstown College receiving a Bachelors in Business Administration majoring in Industrial Management.
He leaves to cherish his memory his nephew, Richard T. Lyons and his wife, Sue; great niece, Christina Lyons and her fiancé, Brandon Palidar.
Besides his parents, Mr. Minahan was preceded in death by his sisters, Eileen P. Lyons and Mary Ann Minhan; brothers, Michael Minahan and Gerald Minahan.
The family will receive relatives and friends Friday, October 23, 2020 from 10:00 am to 10:50 am in St. Edward Church followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 am celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that contribution may be made to St. Edward Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.
