Willoughby Hills – Kathryn “Kitty” Callahan Kennedy, 95, passed away early Thursday morning at home surrounded by her loving family.
Mrs. Kennedy was born in Sharpsville, Pennsylvania on Thursday, April 22, 1926 and was a daughter of Frank J. and Helen Rapp Callahan and moved to the Youngstown area after graduation from St. Elizabeth School of Nursing. She was employed by St. Elizabeth Hospital from 1947 to 1951.
Mrs. Kennedy, formerly of Academy Drive in Liberty Township, left the nursing field to raise her family. She was a fifty-year member of St. Edward Parish and actively involved with the school serving on the PTA, a recess mom, and other capacities. Mrs. Kennedy was always involved with all her children’s activities and so devoted to her children, nieces and nephews and will be sorely missed by all.
She was a volunteer nurse for the American Red Cross Blood donations and was a blood donor, an avid Cleveland Indians fan and loved animals, especially birds.
Mrs. Kennedy leaves to cherish her memory, her children, Martha Hayden; Kate Kennedy, Anne Kennedy; Jean (Ari Ferro) Kennedy; Nell (Harry Wagner) Kennedy; Tess Kennedy: Dan (Tracey) Kennedy; Fran (Bill VanDeweerd, Jr.) Kennedy; Kelly (Jamie) Kane: John Kennedy and Kathryn (Michael) Austalosh; sister, Patricia Corbett; thirteen grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren
Mrs. Kennedy was preceded in death by her husband, Jack B. Kennedy, whom she married February 18, 1950 and who passed away November 1, 2005; brothers, Francis, Michael, and James Callahan; granddaughter, Darla Burbrink; sons in law, Dean Hayden, and Neil Callen.
The Kennedy family will receive relatives and friends Monday, April 11, 2022 in St. Edward Church from 10 am to 11:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at noon celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin.
The family has requested that contributions be sent to the American Red Cross, 3530 Belmont Avenue #7, Youngstown, Ohio 44505.
