YOUNGSTOWN – Mary Patricia Sturgeon, 93, of Youngstown passed away early Saturday evening, November 11, 2023 at the Austintown Health Care Center.
Mrs. Sturgeon, who was known as “Pat”, was born Tuesday, July 22, 1930 in Youngstown and was a daughter of Mark and Mary Agnes McHugh Whalen and she was a lifelong member of the community.
Pat was a member of St. Edward’s Parish, attended grade school there and was a 1948 graduate of East High School. Pat was a homemaker and as her family grew, she was employed by the Jewish Community Center for approximately 20 years retiring in the later 90’s. Upon her retirement, Pat continued her membership at the Center and remained a very active person. She was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society of St. Patrick’s Church in Youngstown and was very proud of her Irish Heritage.
Pat leaves to cherish in her memory, her children, Edward F. Sturgeon of Canfield; Mary Patricia “Patty” Sturgeon (Richard Kelshaw IV) of Melbourne, Florida; Mark (Cindy) Sturgeon of Girard and Kelly (Greg) Symbolik of McDonald; grandchildren, Megan Sturgeon; Brian Sturgeon; Colleen (Brett) Cooper; Haleigh Sturgeon; Patrick Sturgeon, Caitland Kelshaw (Richard Sanford), Patricia “Trish” Kelshaw (Britton Schaeufele) and Connor Symbolik; and a great granddaughter, Kennedy Cooper.
Besides her parents, Pat was preceded in death by her husband with whom she shared over 50 years of marriage, Edward J. Sturgeon whom she married November 23, 1950 and who passed away December 15, 2001; a brother, Mark Whalen, a sister, Helen Jean Whalen and a sister-in-law, Anna Whalen.
The family will receive relatives and friends Monday, November 20, 2023 from 10:00 am to 11:15 am at St. Edward’s Church followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 am celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that contributions may be made to St. Edward’s Church, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown, Ohio 44504.
