GIRARD – Richard J. (Dick) Malone, 81, of Girard passed away Sunday morning, December 18, 2022 in Mercy Health-St. Elizabeth Main Hospital.
Mr. Malone was born Monday, February 17, 1941 in Akron, Ohio and was a son of Harlan and Ruth Naylor Malone and came to this area as a child.
He was employed initially by J & L Steel and followed the progression of the company moving forward to LTV, WCI and retired from RG Steel as the Chief Industrial Engineer of more than 47 years of service to the companies.
Mr. Malone was a staunch supporter of Liberty Township athletics and a member of the Liberty School Board. He was the past President and Treasurer of the Liberty Township Baseball association and even coached baseball. Mr. Malone was a member of multiple Liberty High School Athletic Booster organizations. He loved his trips to Avalon, New Jersey with his family. Madison on the Lake was also a special place for he and his family. Family was of the utmost importance to him. He was a passionate Ohio State and Cleveland sports fan and loved watching his kids and grandkids in sporting events
He was a 1959 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a 1963 graduate of Yale University.
Mr. Malone leaves to cherish his memory his wife after 54 years of marriage, the former, Patricia McNamara, whom he married September 28, 1968; sons, Richard (Laura) Malone of Atlanta and David Malone of Liberty Township; sister, Nancy Malone of Niles; grandchildren, Meghan, and Brennan Malone of Atlanta; and Maggie, Nathan, Kennedy, and Tessa Malone of Liberty Township.
The family has requested in lieu of flowers that donations may be made to Trumbull County Mobile Meals, 323 E. Market Street, Warren, Ohio 44481. The family would like to thank Josh and Ernie from the SICU at Mercy Health
The family will receive relatives and friends from Noon to 2:00 PM Friday, December 23, 2022 at the McCauley Funeral Home, 230 Broadway, Youngstown 44504 with a service to follow.
