VILLA MARIA, PA - Sister Rita Henley, H.M., formerly Sr. Mary St. Edna, S.N.D., 90, died August 31, 2021 at Villa Maria Community Center, Villa Maria PA.
Raised in Cleveland, she graduated from St. Stephen High School and entered the Sisters of Notre Dame in 1953 from Our Lady of Angels Church, Cleveland. In 1970 she left the Notre Dame Congregation and professed vows as a Sister of the Humility of Mary.
Sr. Rita earned her BSE from St. John College, Cleveland and her MSE from St. Louis University, St. Louis, Missouri. She later received her certification as an alcohol counselor from the State of Ohio.
She taught at St. Paul, Salem and served as principal at St. Brendan, Youngstown. She served as a counselor at the Alcoholic Clinic, Youngstown for eight years. In 2018 she returned to Villa Maria Community Center where she joined her sisters in the Ministry of Prayer until her death.
The daughter of the late Cornelius and Edna (nee Yeager) Henley and cousin of the late Dorothy Cox, she is survived by her cousin Coletta Stetz and two nephews, and by the Sisters of the Humility of Mary with whom she shared 51 years of her life.
Due to the current pandemic, there will be no funeral Mass at this time. A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date.
