Sister Rose Mary Schmidt H.M.

Sister Rose Mary Schmidt, H.M., formerly Sr. Rosalie, 89, died April 7, 2021 at St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.  Originally from Massillon, she graduated from Central Catholic High School in 1950 and entered the Sisters of the Humility of Mary in 1951 from St. Mary Parish, Massillon. She professed her perpetual vows in 1956.

She ministered in education, hospitality, pastoral care and administration in the Cleveland, Pittsburgh and Youngstown dioceses including St. Patrick, Hubbard and St. Pius X, Warren. At the time of her death she was a volunteer on the pastoral care team and served in the Ministry of Prayer.

The daughter of the late Frank J. and Florence (Heck) Schmidt, and sister of the late Rita Wagner, Floyd “Bud” Schmidt, Shirley Schmidt, Rev. John W. Schmidt, and Francis “Frank” Schmidt, she is survived by her brother Raymond Schmidt, her sister Vivian Gresser and many nieces, nephews, grand and great grandnieces and nephews and their families; and her sisters in the Humility of Mary Congregation with whom she shared her life for 70 years.

A memorial Mass will be celebrated at a later date since Villa Maria Community Center continues to be closed.
