Victor Dominic Garcia

YOUNGSTOWN – Victor Dominic Garcia, 79, of Youngstown passed away peacefully Saturday morning, February 26, 2022 at Hospice House.

Vic was born in Youngstown, Saturday December 19, 1942, the son of Antonio and Frances Garcia (nee Samuel).   A lifelong member of the community, Vic was a member of St. Edward Parish, and a 1960 graduate of Ursuline High School.  He earned both his Bachelors and Masters degrees from Youngstown State University.  

Vic’s careers spanned many industries.  He was a longtime educator in the diocesan schools in the valley. From St. Thomas Aquinas High School to Ursuline High School to John F Kennedy High School, he educated many young lives. In 1981, Vic entered the business world, working for the Insul Company of East Palestine, OH.  There he served in many capacities, including plant manager and international sales manager, until ultimately launching a new venture he led until his retirement. Throughout his professional working years, he maintained a strong connection to community by serving on the Board of the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart, and was also past President of the of the Board of The Youngstown Playhouse.

Vic was an outstanding actor, performing throughout the years at the Playhouse as well as other theaters in the region. From his first starring role at the Playhouse in Plaza Suite to his final, and favorite, playing Morrie in Tuesdays with Morrie, Vic was at his happiest on stage.

Vic enjoyed acting, driving, shooting, archery, reading (especially Sci-Fi books – and especially when one of his cats took a nap next to him). He was a tremendous presence, with a voice that was unforgettable.  He lived life with an amazing capacity for joy; Vic was larger than life.

Vic leaves to cherish his memory his wife of over 53 years, Kathleen Garcia (nee Breen), his son Tony, daughter-in-love Dana, granddaughter Katie, and his sisters-in-law, Marilyn (Bob) Baskerville and Jeanne Robbin.

The family has requested that contributions be made to St. Edward Parish, 240 Tod Lane, Youngstown, 44504, Hospice House, 9083 Sharrott Road, Poland, Ohio 44514, or Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Youngstown 44512.

The family will receive relatives and friends Thursday, March 3, 2022 from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. in St. Edward Church immediately followed by A Mass of Christian Burial celebrated by Monsignor Robert Siffrin.
