CANFIELD - William J. Vallos, 77, of Canfield, formerly of Mill Creek Drive in Boardman, passed away early Wednesday morning, November 11, 2020 at Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
Mr. Vallos was born January 28, 1943 in Youngstown the son of James and Ethel (Chaparas) Vallos, where he was a lifelong member of the community.
Mr. Vallos’ career was in the construction industry, as an operating engineer for Acme Construction, as owner of Interstate Construction in Youngstown, as a track maintenance supervisor with Sharon Steel, as a project estimator with CR Construction in Cleveland and Delta Railroad in Ashtabula. He retired in 1975
Mr. Vallos was a member of St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church in Boardman where he served on the parish council. He was a past president of the Order of AHEPA, and a longtime officer in the Pan-Arcadian Federation. He was a 32nd Degree Mason, member of the Thrall Lodge in Cambridge, Ohio. He was also a member of St. John’s Seniors and a men’s coffee group. He was a graduate of Staunton Military Academy, attended both Ohio State University and Youngstown State University.
Mr. Vallos was proud of his Greek heritage and known for his culinary skills especially his lamb and baklava.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of over 45 years, the former Susan Clay, whom he married October 18, 1975; sons, James (Amanda) Vallos of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Steven (Lindsey) Vallos of Winston-Salem, North Carolina; and Zachary (Allie) Vallos of Denver, Colorado; sister, Deanna Vallos of Boardman; grandchildren, Theodore, Elizabeth, Lucianna, Cooper and Giulianna, several godchildren and cousins.
Mr. Vallos was so proud of all his sons’ athletic and professional careers and immensely enjoyed following his son, Steve’s football career at Boardman High School, Wake Forest University and the NFL.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held, Saturday, November 14, 2020 at 11 a.m. in St. John the Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church.
